Things changed a few days ago when I was emotionally unstable due to it being that time of the month. With a cocktail of dark emotions swirling within me, I knew my usual rotation of pop or K-drama soundtrack songs wouldn't cut it. So I turned to one of the staples of my early adult life: emo rock songs, or as others might call it, alternative rock or soft rock. I'm not sure if my categorisation is correct but I'm not bothered enough to check ;)
Anywho, I turned to Spotify and the songs I listened to in the alternative rock playlist was like a balm to the aching soul. There is nothing quite like the sounds of the electric or acoustic guitar, and perhaps even the accompanying piano, to speak to the lost and restless soul. Now that I'm back to listening to the likes of The Fray, Snow Patrol, Lifehouse, The Script, One Republic, The Calling and so on, I wondered how I could have ever stopped listening to rock.
Listening to Spotify with (ironically) a spotty wifi connection makes me wish I'm using the paid Spotify service, or have a more stable internet connection. In a moment of wifi disconnect, I checked my laptop to see if I had any rock songs: turned out I had a few! :D Sure, it only amounted to slightly more than a dozen songs but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that some of the songs were actually on the playlist I recently listened to on Spotify. I never realised I had those songs and I know I didn't download those songs. To my friends and former colleagues who shared me their rock songs, thank you so much! You guys rock!
