Ever the stargazer

I actually woke up (on my own) at 5.33am today. I had set my alarm at 5.40am to wake up to see the Lyrid meteor shower but in the middle of the night I figured I might not wake up early. Since I was up, I played with my phone for a while and then went to the see the night sky from the vicinity of the study room. The sky was cloudy at the bottom part close to the horizon but the upper-middle part was clear. I did not see any meteors no matter how hard I strained my eyes but I did see some planets and stars.

At first I thought it was Venus but upon using my app, I discovered that the three bright planets I at the south eastern side were Mars, Saturn and Jupiter. Saturn and Jupiter were so close together that they looked like one giant star. To my further delight, I saw the constellations Sagittarius (my constellation!) and Scorpius, coincidentally two of my favourite Gold Saints from Saint Seiya. I even managed to see the star Antares. The longer I looked, the more I could see the orange reddish hue. In the app, I could supposedly see Libra at the western side of the sky but I didn’t really see it. Aquarius was also there at the more south eastern part of the sky but I couldn’t really see it either. I spent a good 10-15 minutes looking at the early morning sky.

It’s been a while since I did this and it felt good. There’s always something wonderful and magical about looking at the sky whether at night or during the day. Looking at the clouds floating across the bright blue sky or the twinkling stars in the mysterious night sky just opens up the imagination.

Venus

I see fireworks, as Venus hangs low on the horizon.
